Train Hits Liberty City Work Truck, Killing One, Injuring Another

Authorities say a suburban Kansas City parks worker died and another worker was injured after a train struck the city work truck in which they were riding.

The Kansas City Star reports that the collision happened Wednesday morning after 26-year-old Cameron Leeds, of Gladstone, attempted to cross a double set of train tracks on a gravel service road in Liberty. Leeds waited while a westbound train passed, but then drove into the path of an eastbound train on the second track. Leeds was killed, and the other worker suffered serious injuries.

The crossing where the collision happened isn't used by the general public. It has only a stop sign, with no lowering arms or warning lights.

Liberty City Administrator Curt Wenson says Leeds "left an indelible mark" on the city.
