Update: ATF Investigating Fire that Engulfed Kansas City Furniture Warehouse
A massive 3-alarm fire broke out Tuesday afternoon and engulfed a Kansas City furniture warehouse on Southwest Blvd.
The Associated Press reports that nearly 90 firefighters were battling the blaze at Friday's Only Furniture Outlet, which is a three-story furniture warehouse near downtown K.C.
Several Kansas City media outlets showed dark smoke pouring out of the building. Reports indicate that the smoke could be seen from miles away. The Kansas City Star reported that the fire could be seen by drivers on I-35, and as far away as Olathe and the Kansas City International Airport.
KCFD Fire Chief Paul Berardi said there was nobody in the building at the time the fire started. No injuries were reported in the blaze.
The fire was deemed 'under control' by Tuesday evening.
On Wednesday afternoon, Fox-4 News reported there were two investigators from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives on the scene trying to narrow down a likely cause. As of now, the ATF says there's nothing to indicate anything suspicious about the fire.
