The Sedalia City Council is looking at drafting an ordinance that would ban smoking in public places.  There are already numerous cities that have drafted similar ordinances that ban smoking in public places, including restaurants and bars across our country and in Missouri. Sedalia already has banned smoking at State Fair Community College and Bothwell Regional Health Center and its affiliates, city owned property also has restrictions that have been put in place.  Many businesses have made the decision on their own to prohibit smoking inside the restaurant or business.

Last week, Jack Miller talked with City Administrator Gary Edwards, who said that  the council is wanting hear all sides and opinions on the matter, and invites everyone to the City Council Work Session before the meeting tonight at 6 p.m.

It should be stressed that no action will be taken during the work session, but the council will limit comments to three minutes.

Where do you stand on a public smoking ban?  Should a business have the right to decide if smoking is allowed or not? Should there be restrictions on smoking in public?
