The Bothwell Foundation received more than $11,000 during its inaugural Pinktober Campaign, which raised funds for breast cancer awareness and treatment.

A press release from BRHC says that several area businesses hosted fundraisers throughout the month of October including Central Bank of Sedalia, Moore’s Greenhouse and Flower Shop, and Yeager’s Cycle Shop.

Central Bank of Sedalia sold T-shirts at all its local branch locations during the month and raised $3,095 for the campaign. The fundraiser was spearheaded by Debbie Stuenkel, a Central Bank of Sedalia employee and breast cancer survivor. “I wanted to do something for Bothwell to show how much their services meant to me,” Stuenkel said. “My doctor was out of town and the doctors at Bothwell worked with him so I didn’t have to drive back and forth for radiation. Being able to stay here in Sedalia for treatment makes a big difference when you have multiple treatments.”

Moore’s Greenhouse and Flower Shop sponsored its 8th annual 'Bra Decorating Contest.' Bras decorated with a breast-cancer awareness theme were given to Moore’s for display during October, and residents made $1.00 donations with each vote they cast for their favorite bra. Moore’s raised $1,401 through the contest.

BRHC says all the money raised during Pinktober stays local and benefits breast cancer awareness efforts and treatment through the Bothwell Foundation’s Gene Loveall Cancer Services Fund. For more information about the Bothwell Foundation, visit brhc.org.
