Bothwell Regional Health Center has named Marvin Smoot as its Vice President of Clinic Operations.

In this role, Smoot is responsible for the leadership, strategy, operational support and effectiveness of Bothwell’s 20-plus outpatient clinics.

Smoot has over 20 years of experience in health care and leadership roles. His work includes overseeing physician practice management, provider operations, practice administration and serving as chief operating and strategy officers.

His experiences include leading an electronic medical records implementation, accreditation for an operating room and ambulatory surgery center, new surgery center construction and multi-state growth strategy.

His most recent role was Executive Vice President at NexGen Surgical CCI/Anesthesia in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he was responsible for monitoring operations for over 40 hospitals in 20 different states.

Lori Wightman, Bothwell CEO, said Smoot’s experience and personality make him well-suited for the top clinic leadership position.

“Marvin brings a depth and breadth of health care experience and leadership to the table,” she said. “He has a lot of energy, humility and curiosity. Everyone who met with him during the interview process shared similar sentiments about him. He has a vision for clinic improvements, operational savviness, and terrific interpersonal and communication skills.”

Smoot is from Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and started his collegiate career on a football scholarship at Augustana University in Sioux Falls. He transferred to University of Sioux Falls to continue playing football and received a degree in Business Management. In 2014, he earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Sioux Falls, and in 2019 he earned a doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership from Grand Canyon University in Arizona.

Smoot is married and has six children ages 2 to 28. He and his wife, Jenna, are looking forward to living in Sedalia and being involved in the community. His volunteer experience includes leading a veteran’s organization and coaching youth sports.

“I am thrilled to join the Bothwell Regional Health Center team,” Smoot said. “My wheelhouse is being in a health center environment, and the Bothwell system that includes a hospital and multiple clinics is an ideal opportunity for me. I am looking forward to digging deeper into current operations, meeting new people and ensuring clinic directors, physicians and providers have the resources they need to excel and provide excellent care to patients.”

Smoot started at Bothwell on Nov. 27. He is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and will work closely with the Board of Trustees and medical staff.

“Marvin enjoys collaboration and helping others,” Wightman said. “He has a knack for bringing people together and is wired to make sure everyone he works with is successful. I’m excited to welcome him to the team and watch him lead our clinic operations and become involved in the community.”
