State Fair Community College's The LearningForce and the Missouri Sheriff's Assocation is set to offer part-time police academy training later this summer.

People who would like a career in law enforcement but are not able to commit to a full-time training schedule, now have a part-time training option.

Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) will be offered on the Sedalia campus, beginning August 22.

According to a press release from SFCC, classes will be held from 6 - 10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Some training on Sundays is required. POST certified instructors will teach the classes.

SFCC says that students who successfully complete the training, will earn a Class A Peace Officer license, and certifications in Pressure Point Control Tactics in defense, ground avoidance/ground escape and spontaneous knife/edged weapons; handgun, shotgun, and patrol rifle; Taser and OC/pepper spray, active shooter response, and others.

The cost for the class $4,000 with $2,000 due by August 22nd.

The remaining amount is due by October 1. The list of requirements and the two-step application process are available at sfccmo.edu. The deadline to apply is July 17.

The class will end on June 5, 2018.
