Pettis County Eastern Commissioner Israel Baeza issued the following statement on Monday afternoon:

"With the proposal of a future landfill coming to Pettis County, my office has held numerous meetings and conversations with residents throughout our Great County. It is evident that the citizens do not want another landfill in our community.

On June 16, 2021, when this issue was first formally brought before the County Commission, I was very clear regarding my position on this issue. I stand with my community and do not support a future landfill in Pettis County. As these discussions progressed, attorneys became involved and under the advisement of our County’s legal counsel, I was directed not to make further public statements regarding this matter. At the time I accepted these terms, as I felt it was the best way to protect our County’s liability and assets, which we have been entrusted with safeguarding.

After months of immersive research, I want to reassure the public that I will not support any ordinance or agreement that does not put the interest of Pettis County at the forefront. I am committed to working with the concerned citizens of our County to make sure that their concerns are being addressed and information is accessible to everyone. I will continue to be a strong voice for my district and the citizens I was elected to represent.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly at baezai@pettiscomo.com.

Sincerely,

Israel Baeza
Pettis County Eastern Commissioner"
