The Warrensburg City Council approved a contract on Monday night with Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. for a hot mix overlay for street maintenance.

The total amount of the contract is $416,026.67, which exceeds the original staff estimate of $411,297 by $4,729.67, it was noted.

However, Emery Sapp & Sons (Columbia) was the lowest and most qualified bidder, Public Works Director Marvin “Slim” Coleman told the Council.

Other bids received were from Hanrahan Asphalt & Paving (Grandview) $493,850; Thorne & Son Asphalt (Raytown) $448,414; Higgins Asphalt (Tipton) $413,335; and Tandem Paving Co, Inc., (Blue Springs) $422,291.

There will be approximately 24,000 square yards of asphalt surface milling and 4,732 tons of asphalt placed in Warrensburg this year.

The money will come from the City's Capital Improvements Fund (CIP).
