Fatal House Fire Under Investigation in Johnson County
One person is dead following an overnight house fire southeast of Warrensburg in rural Johnson County.
The Johnson County Fire Protection District was notified of a fully engulfed double-wide mobile home fire on SE 350 Road east of Missouri Route 13 (south of Warrensburg) just before 5:30 a.m., Wednesday morning. As emergency crews arrived, they found only burning remnants of the home.
“A neighbor discovered the fire and called 911,” said Fire District Captain Joe Jennings. “At the time of the initial report, the structure had already burned to the ground. It appears the residence was burning for some time before anyone noticed.”
As firefighters began extinguishing the fire, one unidentified deceased individual was located within the remains of the burned structure.
The identity of the deceased is pending identification by Johnson County Coroner Clark Holdren.
Jennings added, “We are not going to be able to determine if there were or were not smoke alarms in the home due to the amount of fire loss.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal and Johnson County Fire Investigation Unit.
Additional information will be released when available.
