Fenton Man Drowns in Meramec River

A Fenton man drowned in the Meramec River on Saturday after he drove his car off a boat ramp and into the river.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 28-year-old Kyle A. Goebel of Fenton drove his 2004 Chevy Cavalier down Boat Ramp #2 at George Winter Park at Fenton around 11:30 Saturday morning.

Goebel remained in his car, which was submerged, and the body was later recovered by the Metro West Fire Protection District Dive Team and later pronounced dead by Fenton Fire Protection District personnel at 1:30 p.m. Goebel was not wearing a seat belt, according to the report.

The body was taken to Lonnings Mortuary Service by the St. Louis County Morgue.

Also assisting the five troopers at the scene were St. Louis County Park Rangers and St. Louis County Police.
