Grandview Man Drowns In Unity Village Lake

A Grandview man died in a boating accident that occurred Thursday morning in Jackson County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 10-foot watercraft, operated by 76-year-old Bruce W. Butler of Independence, was on Unity Village Lake #2 around 8:30 a.m., when his passenger, 69-year-old Randall R. Bray, stood up, causing the vessel to capsize.

Butler swam to shore, but Bray did not resurface.

Bray was pronounced dead at 5:30 p.m., by Jackson County Medical Examiner Jason Horner.

Jackson County Deputies and Lee's Summit Fire assisted the eight Troopers on scene.
