An Independence man was killed in a motorcycle accident that occurred Saturday evening in Jackson County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a westbound 1996 Harley Davidson, driven by 55-year-old Joseph L. Hammond of Independence, was on US 24, west of Burnley Road around 6:30 p.m., when the motorcycle traveled off the roadway and struck a concrete barrier, ejecting the driver.

Hammond was transported to Centerpoint Hospital by EMS, and was pronounced dead at 7:12 p.m. by Dr. Allison J. Barfuss.

The Harley was totaled.

Jackson County Deputies assisted the Patrol.
