No, a Data Center Is Not Coming to Canton, Missouri
This is a rumor that hits very close to home for me - literally. Social media has been buzzing about the possibility that a data center is planned for Canton, Missouri. I'll sum it up in one word: NOPE.
The City of Canton, Missouri shared this message on their Facebook page this morning. It's in regards to a rumor that a data center is being planned in the area.
In case you can't read the small print on your device, here's the quote from Canton Mayor Terry Fretwell:
"The City has no idea who Dave Mahon is and there has been no talk of any data center being installed in or near the City of Canton. The Facebook post is false."
I have heard some commenting in northeast Missouri that the appearance of low-flying helicopters was because data center builders were scouting for available water sources. Again, that's not true according to any provable information I can find. Trust me. I am one of the biggest advocates for stopping data centers from taking over. Our utility bills are high enough as it is. If I ever hear of a data center coming to northeast Missouri, you will hear me screaming from the rooftops. As of now, I think it's safe to say everyone can mellow out and rest easy. If that changes, I'll let you know.
