A Kansas City woman died after she was hit by a car while crossing a street on the east side of the city, police said.

Carrie Davis, 63, was walking across a street a block north of the Kansas City VA Medical Center when she was hit, police said. She was unresponsive when she was taken to an area hospital, and police were notified Friday that she had died from her injuries without ever having regained consciousness.

The driver remained at the scene of the crash and was questioned and released, police said.

No charges have been filed in the case by midday Saturday.
