Lady Gremlins Beat Marshall in Home Opener
The Lady Gremlins hosted the Marshall Owls in their Home Opener with wins for all three teams.
Senior Captain Sammy Altena had a personal game high with 18 kills in 27 attempts. She was solid and fierce on the court making big plays and always leading with positive encouragement.
Right behind Altena was Junior Sophia Carney with 11 kills, giving setter Avery Epple 22 assist for the night. Juniors Epple and Carney had a combined 34 serve receptions that helped set up a strong offense for the Gremlins.
Senior Emily Hesse and Junior Avery Epple both had 6 digs, taking away some great hits from the Lady Owls.
Freshman Kynslee Prewitt continues to be flawless behind the serving line, she is on a 6 game streak with no missed serves. Juniors Ava Stone and Sophia Carney both led the team each with 22 serves and 12 points. Varsity won in four sets against the Owls; 25-18, 25-13, 23-25, and 26-24 which now puts them at 3-1-2 for the season.
This was the first game of the season for the JV and C team; both teams won in two against the Owls. JV won 25-19 and 25-12 with Freshman Paisley Carl leading from the serving line with 15 solid serves, 5 of which were aces.
Sophomores Bailee Vogel and Emilee Jackson both had 3 kills, and Freshman Molly Brown contributed at the net with 2 blocks in one set. Coaching staff was very excited about their performance, especially seeing setters Sophie Anderson and Mary Butner really keeping the team upbeat and motivated with little to no first-game jitters.
C Team walked away with the Win in two sets as well, 25-16 and 25-20. Freshman Lauren Diller had 12 points for the Gremlins, and nine serve receives to set up a good offense for the team.
Freshman Kieran Cahill stepped up in a new role setting and really adjusted well and gave the hitters 14 great sets which gave Riley Schlarb, Paige Diller and Molly Brown two kills for the first game of the season.
The Lady Gremlins will host the Crest Ridge Cougars on Thursday, Aug. 31 at home.
