The Lady Roadrunners opened their 2022-2023 campaign with a 79-70 victory over Missouri Valley College at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.

SFCC led 20-18 at the end of the first quarter and 40-35 at halftime and led the entire game. However, Missouri Valley refused to go away, forcing the Lady Roadrunners to make plays down the stretch.

Freshman forward Aiyanna Tanksley of Detriot, Michigan, registered a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Biance Stocks of Lake of the Ozarks added 13 points. Freshman guard Perryauna Youmans of Palmetto, Florida, scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high three. Sophomore Autumn Wallace of Climax Spring pulled down 10 rebounds and tied for the team lead in assists with freshman guard Kylee Ash of Tuscumbia at five.

"We are still ironing out the kinks and figuring out who can do what," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Nicole Collier. "We're still trying to figure each other out on the defensive end of the floor. There are a lot of teachable moments from tonight. It was good for us to get some time on the floor against another team.

“We had 17 turnovers in the first half. We were careless with the ball and made some poor decisions. We did a much better job of taking care of the ball and controlling the offense in the second half. I thought we did a better job of not giving up as many offensive rebounds in the second half," Coach Collier said.
