An Odessa man was injured after an 18-wheeler struck the rear of another on Highway 50 in Johnson County Thursday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 27-year-old Jason W. Duke of Odessa was slowed to make a turn on westbound 50 at NW 1421 Road at 1:45 p.m., when his 2001 Freightliner was struck from behind by a westbound 2005 Freightliner driver driven by 46-year-old Ismael Gomez-Alcala of Dodge City, Kansas. Gomez-Alcala came to a controlled stop on the right shoulder, while Duke traveled off the roadway and struck a highway sign. Debris from the crash flew into the path of a westbound 2017 Hyundai driven by 89-year-old Lillian M. Sunderland of Independence.

Duke suffered minor injuries and was transported to Centerpoint by JCAD for treatment. All drivers were wearing a safety device, according to the MSHP report.
