Pettis County Commission Passes Order For Real Estate Tax Credit For Seniors
The Pettis County Commission announced the passage of Commission Order, 03-2024
#1878, "Providing for a Real Estate Tax Credit for Seniors in Pettis County," in accordance with Missouri Senate Bill 190 (MO SB 190) and MO SB 756.
This action taken by the County Commission will provide a real estate tax credit for senior citizens, offering financial relief and supporting the well-being of Pettis County's elderly residents.
Presiding Commissioner Bill Taylor commented on the passage by saying, “Pettis County passed Commission Order 03-2024 #1878 this morning and we want to thank Pettis County Collector Marsha Boeschen and everyone who worked so hard to get it done. This will be a tax savings to our seniors that are 62 years and older, which will help keep them in their homes as the law intended."
Western Commissioner Jim Marcum remarked by stating, “What started off as a great idea turned into complicated issue. With us hashing it out, we think came up with one of the best ideas of how this tax credit should be implemented in Pettis County."
Eligible seniors will benefit from a reduction in their real estate taxes, ensuring they can continue to reside in their homes without the added stress of increasing property taxes. Citizens will have the opportunity to apply for this credit between March 1st – May 31st of the year 2025.

“We as a Commission thought it was the right thing to do for our senior citizens,” Eastern Commission Israel Baeza said. “For their entire life, they have contributed to our community, and this is a great opportunity to give them financial peace of mind. This has been an ongoing topic of discussion, and I am proud that Pettis County is leading the way as one of the first counties to adopt this measure."
The Pettis County Commission encourages all eligible senior citizens to take advantage of this tax credit and invites them to contact the Pettis County Collector’s Office for more information on how to apply for the credit.
