A Pleasant Hill man was killed after he stepped into the path of a vehicle on US Highway 50 west of Lone Jack on Saturday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 18-year-old Robert D. McCormick of Pleasant Hill stepped into the path of a westbound 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer driven by 24-year-old Jordan E. Aldrich of Sedalia at 5:43 p.m. on US Highway 50, 1/2 mile west of Alley Jackson.

McCormick was struck by the Lancer and later pronounced dead by Dr. Miller at Lee's Summit Medical Center at 6:17 p.m.

The Lancer had extensive damage and was towed from the scene.

The Patrol was assisted by Lone Jack Police, Lake Lotowana Police and Jackson County deputies.

The Kansas City Star reports that McCormick had crashed his own vehicle near Lone Jack and was struck as he returned to the highway to seek help. The Star says no citations were issued in the incident.
