Sedalia Firefighter Roger Wiskur has worked for 30 years with the SFD, and was honored for his three decades of services Monday night by Sedalia Fire Chief Greg Harrell.

Witnessing the driver/engineer being honored was his family, including his wife Julie, along with their seven kids and several other close family members.

"One of the best things about being fire chief is getting to do things like this and recognize someone who's put a big chunk of his life at the fire station," said Harrell. "Thirty years is a long time when you consider every third day, 24 hours is spent at that fire station. Roger and I spent a lot of time together on the same shifts, working some of the same crews, so it's an honor, Roger."

Chief Harrell then turned to the Scouts who were attending the meeting and said that Wiskur is someone they can aspire to, having worked the same job and done it well for 30 years, crediting his commitment and dedication.

Harrell presented Wiskur with a certificate of appreciation. Applause filled the Chamber as seven members of the City Council, along with Mayor Kehde and City Administrator Kelvin Shaw, congratulated Wiskur with a handshake.

Wiskur is up for retirement in three years.
