Sedalia Police Reports for November 21, 2023

Monday morning, Officers responded to the 900 block of Westwood Avenue for a report of a burglary. At the scene, Officers spoke with the victim and gathered information on the events that occurred, and a report was completed.
On the evening of November 16th, Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of East 15th Street in reference to a home break in. On arrival, Officers made contact with the reporting party, who stated the home was locked up before they left for work. When they returned, the house appeared to have been gone through. Officers walked the property with the reporting party and photographed the residence. A report was submitted.
Monday afternoon, Officers performed a traffic stop on a car near Clinton Road and Driftwood Drive because the car had expired registration. A check through Dispatch showed the driver had an active Moniteau County warrant for their arrest. Mekhi A. Burnley, 25, of Sedalia, was arrested for his Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Speeding (20-25 MPH). Burnley was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked in pending a $250 cash only bond.
On the night of November 14th, Officers responded to the 400 block of East 7th Street to investigate a reported shooting. According to the probable cause report, a red Dodge pickup had left the scene before Officers’ arrival. Pettis County Deputies located the Dodge, and performed a vehicle stop on it. Deputies searched the vehicle, found no firearms, and spoke with the driver, who claimed to be the victim in the incident. The driver stated he was in argument with a subject known as “Chop”, later identified as Christopher M. Everts, 19, of Sedalia. The driver stated after a verbal confrontation between himself and another male, Everts joined the argument. Everts then pulled out a handgun, fired two rounds into the ground, and then left the scene on foot. Witnesses on scene only heard the gun shots, and most of the witnesses didn’t see anything – although one anonymous witness stated the suspect took off running south down the Katy Trail. Officers did find shell casings for a 9mm in the roadway, but the handgun was not recovered. Monday afternoon, Officers performed a subject check in the 400 block of East 7th Street, looking for the suspect, Everts. Contact was made with Everts, and he was arrested on charges of felony Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Armed Criminal Action, and Assault in the 4th Degree. Bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety.
Sedalia Police performed a traffic stop on a truck with no license plates in the area of South Mildred Avenue and East Broadway Boulevard. A check through Dispatch showed the driver had an active Pettis County warrant for his arrest. Serghei Boris Ciobanu, 36, of Sedalia, was arrested for his Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Maintaining Financial Responsibility, Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License, and Speeding (20-25 MPH). Ciobanu was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked in, pending a cash only bond of $250.00.
Officers responded to the Remax Realty office, 1435 Thompson Boulevard, for a report of harassment. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the reporting party. Officers gathered information on the harassment complaint and filed a report.
