Sedalia School Board Approves Budget and Hall of Fame Nominees
The Sedalia 200 School Board met in regular session Monday night and approved final budget amendments for the 2016-2017 school year and a preliminary budget for the upcoming year.
The Sedalia School District ended the school year with revenues of over $52,000,000 and expenses totaling over $51,000,000.
According to the school board, the district had a surplus of nearly $568,000.
The school board heard from Dr. Harriett Wolfe, regarding the budget. A portion of the surplus will be used to pay for part of the district's maintenance plan, which includes renovating the old cafeteria at Smith-Cotton High Junior High School into usable classroom space. Currently, the old cafeteria is being used for district storage.
Wolfe also presented the board with the preliminary budget for the 2017-2018 school year. As of now, the budget for next school year is balanced, with an amount over $51,700,000. That budget is subject to change.
Part of the surplus from the previous school year will be rolled-over into the upcoming year.
Towards the end of the meeting, the board approved five nominees to the Smith-Cotton Hall of Fame. The nominees for the athletic section of the hall of fame, include 2001 graduate Jennifer Drum, 1977 graduate Bruce Kerr, and Bill and Alma Dey - for their support and contribution to S-C Baseball over the years.
Nominees for the activity section of the hall of fame include musicians Gene Kelley II and 1966 graduate David Turner.
One final report the board heard regarded the year's attendance record. The Sedalia 200 School District had an overall attendance rate of 90.57% for the 2016-2017 school year.
