Sedalia Police responded to a theft in progress on New Years Eve and ended up arresting one male and one female.

 

At 6:07 p.m., Wednesday, Officers responded to W.T. Morris and Main Street for a theft in progress.

 

Two subjects were located inside a parked truck. They were subsequently arrested and booked in at the Pettis County Jail on a 24-hour hold.

 

35-year-old Zachary Dewayne Palmer now faces charges of two counts of 2nd degree burglary, two counts of 1st degree  property damage, armed criminal action, possession of burglary tools, and unlawful use of a weapon (exhibiting).

Palmer was also wanted on a warrant for property damage, and a and FTA warrant for 2nd degree burglary and 1st degree accessory to property damage involving a motor vehicle with intent to steal. The bond on that warrant was $10,000 cash or surety.

 

30-year-old Michele Leigh Bradley was arrested and now faces charges of 2nd degree burglary involving a motor vehicle and 1st degree property damage.

According to a probable cause statement, Palmer and Bradley were actively breaking into a red, International flatbed truck bearing historic license plates. The owner of the truck was on scene.

 

There were numerous food items inside the truck, and the passenger door appeared to be the point of entry due to the extensive damage seen by officers. The damage was estimated at $1,000.

 

A search of Palmer revealed a pair of wire cutters and a black, switchblade-style knife.

 

Palmer’s criminal history includes two prior arrests for burglary, but no convictions.

 

Palmer is homeless and is considered a flight risk.

A circuit court hearing to determine counsel status is scheduled for Jan. 27 with Judge Sawyer.
