SFCC Roadrunners Add to Roster For Upcoming Season
State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners Basketball Head Coach Matt Brown has announced the addition of 15 student-athletes to his roster for the upcoming 2024-2025 campaign.
Eric Shaw, a 6’4’ guard/wing from St. Louis, played his high school basketball at Maplewood Richmond Heights in St. Louis. Shaw scored over 1,000 points during his high school career and was named to the All-Metro Team in St. Louis.
“Eric is an extremely athletic player,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. “He played against really good competition in St. Louis. It is always great to add another Missouri student-athlete. We are excited to have him.”
Donta Davis, a 6’4 point guard from New York, transferred to SFCC from Shawnee Community College. Davis sat out last semester, but played prep school basketball at Tennessee Prep.
“Donta is a bigger guard,” said Brown. “Donta has a high basketball IQ and is a leader on the floor.”
Rashawn Witherspoon, a 6’0 guard, played at Tuscaloosa County High School in Northport, Alabama. Witherspoon helped his team to a 21-7 record as a senior.
“Rashawn is a player that we signed a couple of years ago but, he was unable to play because of injury,” said Brown. “He will be ready to go this fall.”
Sam Bradford, a 6’6 guard/forward from Howard College in Texas, played in 22 games and averaged 2.8 points per game and 1.7 rebounds per contest in a reserve role. Bradford played prep school basketball at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia.
“Sam is a player who can play multiple positions,” said Brown. “I think he’s going to be a terrific player for us.”
Chin Hanson, a 6’9 forward, transferred from Roosevelt University, an NAIA university in Chicago, Illinois. Okpukpara averaged 2.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per contest last season.
“Chin is a good athlete who runs the floor,” said Brown. “He will be a good fit for our team in Region 16.”
Daniel Garza, a 6’6 guard/forward, played at Don Bosco Preparatory School in Indiana. Garza shot 43 percent from the field and averaged 11.2 points in 10 games. He pulled down 42 total rebounds at Don Bosco.
“Danny can really shoot the ball,” said Brown. “He has a high basketball IQ and is an excellent student, we are looking forward to having him.”
Tyson Mobley, a 6’0 guard, played his high school basketball at Newtown High School in Connecticut and Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia. Mobley earned all-conference and all-state honors in Connecticut. Mobley also played prep school basketball at We Believe Academy in New England.
“Tyson is a guy who comes here with some experience,” said Brown. “He is a very smart player and brings a good work ethic. Tyson is an experienced player who knows how to play the game. Tyson will give our team more toughness. He is an excellent student and a team player.”
The Roadrunners also signed Malick Ndiaye, a 6’8 guard/forward from Arlington, Texas.
“Malick is a long and athletic player who is really good in transition,” said Brown. “Malick can get to the basket.”
Timothy Palmer, a 6’8 forward from Brinkley, Arkansas, transferred from Shorter College in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Palmer averaged two blocks per game as a freshman which was good enough to finish 13th in the country in NJCAA Division II. Palmer averaged 3.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 22 contests last season at Shorter.
“Timothy is another long and athletic player,” said Brown. “Timothy is a shot blocker who will only get stronger.”
Jon Brandtner, a 6'4 guard from Cape Girardeau, transferred from Shawnee Community College. Brandtner played in 23 games off the bench as a freshman at Shawnee and averaged 1.2 rebounds per game.
“Jon is a skilled player, who can really shoot,” said Brown. “He is tough as nails. He played his prep school basketball at SEMO Prep. I believe will be able to step in and help us right away.”
Wendell Youyou is a 6’4’guard/forward from New Haven, Connecticut.
“Wendell is a high-energy guy, who will play the guard or forward position,” said Brown. “Wendell is really liked by his teammates and will provide a lot of toughness and energy. Wendell is a really good athlete on the defensive end.”
Donovan Matthews, a 6'5 forward, played his high school basketball at Cypress Park High School in Houston, Texas.
“Donovan is a big, strong player who’s good around the basket,” said Brown. “He will provide us a physical presence inside.”
Coach Brown has also added three additional newcomers to his roster.
Michael Vansell, a 6'4 forward, played his high school basketball at Versailles High School. Vansell will also be a part of the track and field program at SFCC.
“Michael is a tough physical player and is also a hard worker,” said Brown. “He is a good team guy.”
Tristan Albrecht, a 6'5 guard/forward, played his high school basketball at Versailles High School.
“Tristan is long lanky and a really good athlete,” said Brown.
Weston Crawford, a 6'2 guard, played at Green Ridge High School. Crawford will also be a member of the track and field team at SFCC.
“Weston is a great kid and a hard worker,” said Brown. “He is appreciative of the opportunity and will be another good team guy.”
