Slater Man Killed in Saline County Rollover

A Slater man was killed and a Slater woman was injured in a one-vehicle accident that occurred Monday morning in Saline County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a westbound 2005 Chevy Trailblazer, driven by 63-year-old Donnita J. Friend of Slater, was on Missouri 240, east of Marigold Avenue at 10:53 a.m., when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway. The driver overcorrected, causing the Chevy to return to the roadway and skid. The Chevy then traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a ditch, overturned and struck a fence.

A passenger, 61-year-old James W. Friend of Slater, was then ejected from the vehicle, which came to rest on its top, facing east. He was killed in the accident, and the body was taken to the Saline County Coroner's Office.

Donnita Friend was seriously injured, and was transported by Life Flight to University Hospital for treatment.

Neither were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report.

Saline County Deputies and Marshall Fire assisted the Patrol at the scene.
