The Smith-Cotton Lady Tigers tennis team recorded its first win of the season, 5-4, on Tuesday at Knob Noster.

S-C got wins from Macy Mathew, No. 1 singles; Caroline Matz, No. 2 singles; Jessica Kotok, No. 3 singles; Liza Tolmacheva, No. 6 singles; and the No. 1 doubles team of Mathew/Matz.

“Everyone played much better today,” said Coach Christine Nierman. “First game jitters were gone, they came ready to play. Proud of Liza for her crucial tie-breaker win.”

The team was 1-1 on the season until Tuesday, when Lady Tigers tennis lost 0-9 to Jeff City, making their record 1-2.

“Tough night on the court against a good Jeff City team,” said coach Christine Nierman. “Playing competition like this allows the girls to see the next level of play and what it takes to get there.”
