Some Kansas City area high schools are rescheduling football games in advance of heavy rain and storms predicted for the Kansas City area tomorrow. This according to reports from KMBC and Fox 4 Kansas City. Smithville, who is playing Smith-Cotton, has moved their game to tomorrow afternoon.

The Warriors, who are celebrating homecoming this weekend, will take on the Tigers at 4:30PM CDT tomorrow, September 27. The National Weather Service forecast for Smithville calls for showers and storms tomorrow afternoon with winds about 35 miles per hour. Tomorrow night, the forecast deteriorates further with storms predicted that could bring one to two more inches of rain to the Smithville area.

When it comes to football, it's not so much rain, wind or any of the elements the players may face, and fans have to deal with, that'll stop a game. It's lightening. That becomes a major safety issue for everyone at the stadium. That could be a major concern with playing tomorrow.

Other Kansas City area schools are choosing to play games tonight, Thursday September 26, instead of tomorrow. Those games include:

  • Ruskin vs. Raytown
  • Bishop Miege vs. St. James Academy
  • Blue Valley West vs. Blue Valley North
  • Olathe West vs. Shawnee Mission North
  • Grain Valley vs. Winnetonka
  • Oak Park vs. Fort Osage
  • SM South vs. Olathe South
  • Lee's Summit at Parkhill South
  • Liberty at Lee's Summit North
  • Park Hill at Raymore - Peculiar
  • Staley vs. Lee's Summit West
  • William Chrisman vs. Truman
