A Smithton man was killed Tuesday morning after being hit by an 18-wheeler on Route O, northeast of Sedalia.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a northbound 2005 Peterbilt 379, driven by 18-year-old Brandon J. Knox of Hughesville, was traveling in the 17566 Route O just after 11 a.m., when the truck struck a MoDOT worker at a job site doing road repair.

It is with the greatest of sadness we are sharing the death of one of our own yesterday – MoDOT KC Senior Maintenance Worker Jay Bone was struck and killed in the line of duty September 24 on Route O outside of Sedalia in Pettis County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Jay had worked for MoDOT since 2015. Please keep the Bone family, their friends and his coworkers in your thoughts

60-year-old Jay L. Bone of Smithton was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedic Michael Hughes at 11:30 a.m. The body was taken to Heckart Funeral Home.
