On Friday night, a Smithton woman was injured after her car flipped over after passing another vehicle in Pettis County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 27-year-old Dakota S. Criner of Smithton was the driver of westbound 2005 Chevy Malibu on Whitfield Road, just east of Gottschalk Road, when she attempted to pass a vehicle at 10:05 pm. and noticed a pair of headlights coming at her in the passing lane.

She swerved back into the driving lane, but then hit the gas instead of the brakes, and traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned.

Criner suffered minor injures and was transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center by private vehicle. She was wearing a safety device.

The Malibu had extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Don's Truck Towing.

Pettis County deputies assisted the Patrol on scene.
