On July 13, the Sedalia Police Department Traffic Division-DWI Unit received the very prestigious National Highway Safety Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) People Saving People Award at the annual Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Advisory Council (LETSC) conference.

The unit’s work has led to a 23 percent reduction in night time crashes, reducing injuries and financial loss to innocent people on the streets of Sedalia.

In addition, Officer Franken and Officer Schmitt both received awards for their yearly DWI arrests along and the SPD traffic vehicle won an award for best-looking police car.

"We are very proud of the SPD Traffic Unit’s accomplishments and their work to improve traffic safety in Sedalia," commented Chief Matt Wirt.
