St. Louis Man Drowns In Meremac River
A St. Louis man drowned Saturday afternoon while swimming in the Meremac River in Crawford County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 36-year-old Karl F. Gander of St. Louis submerged and did not resurface around 3 o'clock Saturday on the Meremac River, about five miles south of Bourbon.
Nearby floaters saw him and pulled him from the water and attempted to provide medical aid. He was transported by private watercraft to a nearby takeout, where they were met by emergency personnel.
He was later pronounced dead by Crawford County Coroner Darren Dake at 4:10 p.m.The body was taken to Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba.
The Patrol was assisted by Crawford County deputies, the Bourbon Fire Department and North Crawford Ambulance.
This was Troop I's first drowning of August, and the fifth for 2020.
