Each spring, the Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) Auxiliary sponsors the Health Care Career Scholarships for students who are pursuing or furthering their education in any health care field.

Recipients are selected by the WMMC Auxiliary Scholarship Committee based on financial need, scholastic ability, work plans and a demonstrated interest in health care. The WMMC Auxiliary has awarded $1,000 scholarships to five students.

This year’s recipients include: Isabella Hadden, Bachelor of Science in Nursing at University of Central Missouri (UCM); Cassandra Irvine, Associates Degree in Nursing at State Fair Community College (SFCC); Anna Mori-Kreiner, Doctor of Medicine at University of Missouri School of Medicine; Jack Mwamba, Bachelor of Science in Biology at UCM; Allyson Nowland, Associates Degree in Nursing at SFCC.

The Wishing Well Gift Shop has always been the largest income source for the scholarships at the same level as in years past.

From the 38 qualified applicants (most number of applicants in recent history) it was easy to see the financial need was great. The Wishing Well Gift Shop is once again open to the public. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. Sales help benefit this health careers scholarship as well as support WMMC though donations of equipment and patient care services.

As educational expenses are rapidly rising and the demand for health care workers increases, there is a continuing need for additional funds. Donations are being sought by the WMMC Auxiliary to ensure the opportunity to provide additional monetary assistance for our future health care providers.

Donations may be made to the WMMC Auxiliary for the Health Care Career Scholarship Fund and sent to WMMC Auxiliary, 403 Burkarth Road, Warrensburg, Mo., 64093.
