Overcast, only slightly cool – it was a great morning for run on Saturday, April 25, when the Bothwell Regional Health Center Foundation held its eighth annual Lub Dub.

More than 540 people registered for the 5K/10K walk and run, which is held annually to raise funds for the Camye Callis Gaspard Memorial Heart Fund for projects to help improve local treatment for cardiovascular disease.

Race Director Rick Schlesselman, who suffered a heart attack when he was 36, knows firsthand the importance of treatment programs and praised the community support for Lub Dub.

“It is awesome to witness the commitment people have to this event, said Race Director Rick Schlesselman. “With Trail’s End and ballgames and proms this weekend, there was a lot going on, but people still took time to come out here on a Saturday morning, socialize, get some exercise and have a great time.”

With new chip timing partner UltraMax Sports of Columbia, race participants could get their timing results as soon as they crossed the McCarthy Toyota Finish Line, and event emcee Doug Sokolowski, of 92.3 Bob FM, was able to announce finishers as they crossed.

There was lots to cheer for from the winners to those who were proud to finish, but one of the most inspiring stories was towards the end for Team McCurdy. Al McCurdy has been an announcer in Sedalia for many years and with 92.3 Bob-FM, Newstalk 1050 KSIS and Better Country KIX 105 for the last two years. His wife, Mary, was diagnosed with lymphoma and was very weak about a year ago. She has been able to get stronger and stronger and with the help of her family and friends, she finished the race with her family around her and the cheers of the crowd as she and Team McCurdy finished.

Overall winners in the runs were:

10K Female, Megan Webb, with a time of 46:22

10K Male, Kyle Eichler, with a time of 40:58
