Sedalia Police issued the following press release on Tuesday afternoon:

On Friday, Sedalia Police were dispatched to Centennial Park in reference to an assault that had just occurred.

Contact was made with the 13-year-old female victim and her friend. The children were taken home and later, the victim was taken to Bothwell ER by her family to be evaluated. She was later released.

Shortly after the incident, a video of the fight began to circulate on social media, and a suspect was identified.

And on Saturday, Sept. 4, the 17-year-old suspect came to the SPD to turn himself in.

Since the suspect is 17, paperwork was completed by the SPD's patrol unit and submitted to the Pettis County Juvenile Office requesting a charge of 2nd degree assault.

SPD detectives have been in contact with the Juvenile Office to ensure they have all the documentation so that the case can move forward.

The SPD thanked all citizens who contacted the police department with information relating to the incident.
