Baby Boy Killed, Four Others Injured in I-29 Crash
A baby boy from Sedalia was killed and four others injured in a four-vehicle crash that occurred on I-29 in Platte County on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a southbound 2019 Peterbilt tractor trailer, driven by 57-year-old Samani B. Mahjouri from Lincoln Nebraska, was on I-29 at the 24.2 mile marker around 3 p.m., when the Peterbilt began to skid and struck the rear of a southbound 2002 Toyota Corolla, driven by 78-year-old Patsy A. Withrow of Savannah, Mo.
The Toyota then struck the rear of a southbound 2022 Freightliner tractor trailer, driven by 31-year-old Sultan Singh of Manitoba, Canada, before traveling off the roadway and into a tree line.
The Peterbilt then struck the rear of the Freightliner and the Freightliner struck the rear of a southbound 2022 Ford F-350, driven by 47-year-old Joseph D. Waxmonski of Linwood, Kansas.
A baby boy in the Corolla was later pronounced deceased at Children’s Mercy Hospital by Dr. Holton at 10:21 p.m.
Withrow suffered serious injuries and was transported to North Kansas City Hospital by Platte County EMS.
Waxmonski suffered minor injuries sought his own treatment.
A passenger in the Toyota, 44-year-old Terri L. Swartz of St. Joseph, suffered minor injuries and was transported to North KC Hospital.
Mahjouri suffered minor injuries and sought his own treatment.
The 350 had minor damage, while the Toyota, Peterbilt and Freightliner were totaled. All were towed.
There were a total of eight Troopers on scene.
