The Boys and Girls Club works very, very hard for the kids of Pettis County and Sedalia.  There are so many people that put their heart and soul into it every day... but the kids also give back, too. At the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri, all area youth – no matter their socioeconomic status – can participate in the educational and fun programs offered.  As part of the Club’s mission of inspiring and enabling all young people to realize their full potential as caring and productive citizens, and they make it a priority to ensure that no child is turned away from the benefits of the Club because of their family’s financial situation.

The kids themselves are also working to make other people's lives easier and more enriched.   Torch Club is also an opportunity to give back to the Club and the community. Members may spend time making Christmas cards to distribute to senior citizens during the holidays or organize a donation drive for the Sedalia Animal Shelter. All projects are voted on and carried out by Torch Club members.  Open to members ages 11 to 13, Torch Club is a leadership and service club that encourages members to learn to work together to plan and implement activities in four key areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness, and social recreation.

I got to speak with Emily Jarrett, the Communications Coordinator of the Boys and Girls Club, about the Torch Club and all the other projects the kids are getting up to at the Club.
