A California man was killed in a head-on collision with a Mack truck Tuesday morning in Moniteau County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that an eastbound 2006 Mack CXN, driven by 32-year-old Joseph S. Harrington of Bevier, was on US 50 at Petree Road (east of Tipton) at 6 a.m., when the truck crossed the center of the roadway into oncoming traffic, and struck a westbound 1994 Mazda pickup, driven by Juan C. Aguado-Vasquez of California, Mo.

Vasquez was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:45 a.m. by Moniteau County Coroner Marty Ramsdell. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Harrington suffered moderate injuries, and his passenger, 30-year-old Bernadette L. Boyd, also of Bevier, suffered serious injuries. Both were transported to the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. Harrington was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, while Boyd was not.

Both vehicles were totaled.

Moniteau County deputies assisted the seven Troopers at the scene.
