Warrensburg now has a new mayor. Her name is Danielle Johnston.

She was nominated for the position by Councilwoman Robin Allen and Johnston said it feels wonderful to serve as mayor after being on the Council for two years.

“I'm excited to continue doing everything that Mayor Jacobs had been working on, along with the rest of the Council, and work to make Warrensburg a better place,” Mayor Johnston said after Monday night's special Council meeting.

Councilman Casey Lund will serve as vice chairman (mayor pro tem) in Johnston's absence.

Former Mayor Bryan Jacobs won his April 3 election, defeating challenger Will Wilkins 438 to 379. Jacobs will serve another term as a Council member. He was presented with a framed gavel by Mayor Johnston. He was then sworn in by City Clerk Cindy Gabel.

“I enjoyed doing it,” Jacobs said of his time serving one term as mayor of Warrensburg. “It was stressful at times, but enjoyable. I look forward to still being involved.”

The transition of power on the Council took place immediately following Monday night's regular Council meeting.
