An Eldon man died in a single-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday morning in Miller County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 50-year-old Jerry D. Wood of Eldon, was the driver of an eastbound 2005 Ford Escape that was on Vaughan Road, 1098 feet east of Old Tuscumbia Road (southeast of Eldon).

The Ford crossed the center line, and the driver overcorrected. The vehicle then recrossed the center line and ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a fence and overturned.

The accident was reported around 5:30 a.m., but the Patrol was unsure of the exact time the incident occurred.

Wood was pronounced dead at the crash scene at 8:13 a.m. Sunday by Miller County Sheriff Louis Gregoire. Wood was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report.

This was Troop F's first fatality for July and the 24th for 2023.
