Eldon Woman Killed in Pedestrian Accident on US 54

A pedestrian was killed Tuesday as she attempted to cross US 54 Highway in Cole County.

The MSHP reports that 46-year-old Rachel A. Welch of Eldon was struck by an eastbound 2007 Lincoln Navigator driven by 84-year-old Harold R. Brooks of Montreal, Mo., at 10:59 a.m. Tuesday morning on US 54 at Route E. Welch was pronounced dead at the scene by Cole County Sheriff Wheeler at 11:20 a.m. The body was taken to Freeman Mortuary.

Brooks was uninjured, but the Navigator had moderate damage and was towed from the scene.

Cole County deputies and the Cole County Rural Fire Department Assisted the Patrol.
