The Sedalia Fire Department, Sedalia Police & PCAD responded to 2100 Clinton Road  (next to MFA Agri Services) on a structure fire called in at 6:33 p.m. Thursday.

Gray smoke was observed coming from the building by Sedalia Police Officer Schmitt at 6:32 p.m., while he was doing an area check of Katy Park, and the officer immediately requested Sedalia Fire to respond to the area, according to an SPD report.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Matt Irwin, there was heavy fire damage to office area of the building, heavy fire damage to a storage space above office area on second floor, and smoke and water damage throughout the metal building.

Fire crews had the fire under control about 10 minutes after arrival, and was contained to the building itself. No injuries were reported to firefighters. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The Missouri State Fire Marshall called in to investigate.

After the investigation, the fire was determined to be accidental in nature with an electrical short the most likely cause of the fire.

Thirteen members of the fire department responded as well SPD, PCAD  and the power company.

The last unit cleared the scene at 9:27 p.m.

SPD received multiple calls during the fire that took precedent over blocking the SFD's supply line. Once the officer left, multiple cars drove over the charged supply line that was blocking  Grand Avenue. That hose was taken out of service last night because of damage to it, said Deputy Chief Irwin.
