Sedalia Fire, Sedalia Police, PCAD, the Sedalia Water Department  and Evergy all responded to the Econo Lodge Truman Inn, 3501 West Broadway, late Friday morning on a fire that appeared to originate in a second story room on the front side of the business.

The Sedalia Fire Department was dispatched the Econo Lodge at 11:04 a.m. on a report of a room on fire.

Upon arrival crews found moderate smoke coming from two windows on the second floor of the front (or north) side of the building.

Fire crews assisted with moving some occupants from the building while locating the exact location of the fire. Two rooms on the seconds floor had fire damage as well as some fire extension into the attic space above one of the rooms.

Moderate smoke filled two different hallways on the second floor as well as light to moderate smoke on the first floor East hall. The fire was extinguished, while secondary searches were conducted to confirm all occupants were out of the building.

Crews remained on the scene for approximately two hours, and at the time of the press release, SFD had one crew on scene with personnel assisting investigators from the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s office, who are investigating the cause of the fire and conducting interviews.

Additional information will be released as soon as possible, said Fire Chief Greg Harrell.
