Holden Fire & Rescue battled a grass fire Tuesday afternoon in a field just east of 14th and Clay on the southeast portion of Holden.

High winds caused the fire to spread rapidly, but firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze with no injuries and no damage to structures.

A cause of the fire was not reported.

Holden is located in western Johnson County, southeast of Kingsville and southwest of Centerview.


 

And the Pettis County Fire Protection District issued a statement early Wednesday morning urging residents not to burn for the next couple of days to due to high winds and dry conditions:

Please. No burning for the next couple of days. Dry conditions and high winds are going to make it dangerous. If you have had a bonfire a fire of any sort, a brush pile within the last month. Please check those areas. With this wind Any remaining coals could reignite the fire.
