The Soccer Gremlins suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 4-1 to Class 3 Platte County at the Barstow Soccer Tournament.

The Gremlins struggled to adapt to the quick pace of play and pressure from Platte. Dallin Chappell played an amazing game in goal, keeping Platte at bay for the first twenty minutes. Platte county capitalized on a cross in the 23rd minute to go up 1-0.

Being down a goal seemed to wake the Gremlins up and the remaining minutes of the second half proved to be very competitive. In the second half, the Gremlins quickly scored an equalizer off a direct kick from John Ulbrich.

The 1-1 tie held up for a good portion of the second half until a deflection off a Platte corner kick was scored in the 24th minute. Platte county quickly added another goal off a long throw in to push their advantage to two goals.

The Gremlins showed resilience however, and Ian Viscarra played a beautiful ball past the defense to Juan Fernandez. The Platte keeper came off his line and made an amazing save to deny Fernandez a goal.

Platte County then once again capitalized off a long throw to make the score 4-1. The Gremlins struggled all night defending throws and set pieces from an experienced Platte County. Sacred Heart will play Maryville on Saturday in the third place game.
