Missouri Faces Another Serious Storm Threat Next Week
We never received official word that winter was over for Missouri, but thunderstorms have already made themselves right at home looking like a rowdy Spring has begun. You need to know that there is yet another threat for severe storms that could slam Missouri early next week, too.
UPDATE 3-8-26: Northeast Missouri/West-central Illinois has been upgraded to an enhanced threat risk for Tuesday storms.
ORIGINAL STORY: As I write this, severe thunderstorms are starting to form over parts of western Missouri. The Missouri governor even declared a state of emergency before these storms even hit. Don't look now, but the NOAA Storm Prediction Center has already issued an advisory for next Tuesday, March 10, 2026. This is the map they just shared showing an increased chance of storm development covering nearly all of Missouri.
As of this writing, we're still nearly 5 days away from Tuesday, March 10 which is stunning considering the fact that the Storm Prediction Center rarely puts out severe weather outlook maps with an increased chance like this so many days away from the actual event.
If you live in Missouri, what should you do with this thunderstorm information?
Don't change any travel or event plans until you hear a watch or warning issued by the National Weather Service. What they're saying with this advisory is they are seeing conditions for next Tuesday lining up to be conducive to potentially explosive thunderstorm development. I'd bet my bottom dollar that they will be updating this map with a 30% advisory area by late this weekend if not before once they have more confidence in what the computer models are showing. Just make a mental note to be especially weather-aware if you live in Missouri for early next week. We'll find out soon enough if thunderstorms will once again pound us like they have for the past few days.
