Thunderstorms, WInd, Snow? The Next 48 Hours of Missouri Weather
Over the next few days, our part of Missouri can expect some of everything Mother Nature wants to throw at us. Today, Monday, will be relatively pleasant. However, storms roll in on Tuesday. Wednesday will be cold and windy; we might see some snow somewhere in this, just enough to make things miserable.
Tuesday March 4: Expect Rain
The National Weather Service says widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms will occur early Tuesday morning into Tuesday night. Moderate to heavy rainfall and strong to marginally severe storms are possible. While the northwest corner of the state is slightly at risk for excessive rainfall leading to rapid onset flooding, most of the area isn't at a significant risk.
Tuesday Night March 4 Through Wednesday March 5: Windy Conditions
The National Weather Service says strong winds are probably from Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening. There is a potential for sustained winds from 25 - 40 miles per hour, with wind gusts 40 -55 miles per hour. There's even a 15-30% chance for wind gusts over 55 miles per hour.
Locally, West Central Missouri is expected to experience wind gusts of around 40 miles per hour, and most of West Central Missouri has a 10-20% chance of seeing wind gusts over 55 miles an hour between Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Where Does Snow Fit In The Mix?
The amount of snow isn't the worry with this snow. Light accumulations are predicted for most of the area, with a 30% chance Kansas City could see over an inch of accumulation. Sedalia and Warrensburg have about a 23% chance of seeing over an inch of snow, while Columbia has a 19% chance.
The most likely part of the state to experience more than an inch of snow is the northwest corner of Missouri and into Iowa. St. Joseph has a 43% chance of seeing over an inch of snow, while Maryville has almost a 50% chance of seeing over an inch of snow. Even then, those areas are only expected to get a couple of inches of snow.

The concern is that whatever snow the area does see will be blown around by the high winds. A dusting might reduce visibility, yet we get some accumulation on the ground, and blowing snow and reduced visibility could be an issue in parts of Missouri.
Bottom Line
The next couple of days are going to be active weather-wise. Keep your eye on the forecast, especially if you're going to be doing any traveling.
