A Kansas City woman was fatally injured in a five-vehicle, chain-reaction crash that occurred Friday night in Platte County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred when the five vehicles were slowing down for another crash that had just occurred ahead of them on southbound I-29, just north of the 22.2 mile marker around 8:30 p.m.

A 2013 Freightliner, driven by 27-year-old Patrick S. Love of Columbia, struck the rear of a southbound 2020 Mini Cooper driven by 31-year-old Arriana J. Shupert of Kansas City. The Mini Cooper hit a 2016 Jeep Wrangler driven by 52-year-old Joseph R. Ramsey of Leawood, Kansas. The Wrangler hit a 2020 Tesla Model Y, driven by 56-year-old Michael K. Schafee of Weatherby Lake. The Tesla then hit a 209 Cadillac Coach, driven by 23-year-old Emily A. Erickson of Marshall, Minn.

Shupert was pronounced dead at 6:09 a.m. Saturday by Dr. Stueve at Mosaic Life Care.

No other injuries were reported.

The Cadillac and Tesla had minor damage, while the Freightliner had moderate damage, the Jeep had extensive damage and the Mini Cooper was totaled.

Platte County deputies assisted the Patrol at the scene.
