A Kingsville man was killed in a two-vehicle accident that occurred in Johnson County Sunday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, as a 2011 Dodge Ram, driven by 17-year-old Josiah A. Musick of Holden, was traveling east of US 50 at 1:34 p.m., when a southbound 1995 Buick Skylark, driven by 33-year-old Jasper D. Smith of Kingsville, attempted to cross the median crossover at NW 1601 Road. The Skylark traveled into the path of the Dodge and was struck by the Dodge. After impact, the Dodge traveled off the right side of the road, struck a utility pole and began to overturn. It then struck two highway traffic sign posts and a fence. The Skylark came to rest on the right side of the road.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Clark Holdren at 2:38 p.m. The body was taken to the Johnson County Coroner's Office. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Musick, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Children's Mercy Hospital by JCAD with minor injuries.

Both vehicles were totaled.
