The Lady Gremlins played against a well-matched Smithton Tigers team (5-3) on Thursday night at Smithton, and lost 2-3.

It was a back-and-forth nail biter, going five sets, with the Gremlins losing by two points in the fifth set, 20-22. The girls came out a little flat in the first two sets, losing 20-25 and 18-25, but made some adjustments and really turned it on in the third and fourth set, winning 25-16 and 25-17.

The fifth set was played to 15 (must win by two) and it was a two-point kind of game going back and forth.  And though the Gremlins didn't win, it was a great and exciting game, keeping everyone on their toes, as both teams rallied hard point for point, the SH coach said.

"We didn't walk away with the win but we learned a lot from the game, took away a lot of positive things and have a good plan to work on the things we struggled with to help us prepare for next week." commented Coach Amy Epple.

Ava Judd led the Lady Gremlins for night with 14 kills, Mariah Armstrong and Emilee Jackson both contributed 12 kills giving setter Avery Epple 41 assist and Ava Judd 7.

A strong performance at the net from Freshman Mariah Armstrong with 4 blocks, Avery Epple with 3, and Bailee Vogel 2.  From the serving line, Addie Figgie led the night with 7 aces, Birkli Martin had 5.  Defensively Birkli Martin and Avery Epple led the Gremlins with 13 digs.

JV beat the Smithton Tigers 25-10 and 25-19, Molly Brown had a great night on the court leading the Gremlins with 6 kills, 2 blocks, and 3 aces.  Maggie Van Leer had 2 kills, 1 block, and was perfect from the serving line.  Emily Tienda led once again defensively for the Gremlins with 11 digs and went 12 for 12 from the serving line.

The Lady Gremlins (3-4) played Bunceton varsity (1-9) on Monday, and won, 3-0.

They travel to Stover (9-3-1) today.
