Sedalia School District 200 on Sunday (Feb. 22) held a recognition reception for donors to Smith-Cotton Stadium at Jennie Jaynes Complex, and the event included a tour of the $6 million facility. After the tour, donors were thanked for their contributions and given a photograph of the complex as a token of appreciation.
The new stadium was hoped to be open for Homecoming, but weather and material delays pushed the start to spring sports. It is hoped that the football team, JROTC, band and track amongst other programs and sports will be able to utilize the new stadium for years to come.
The official process of this project started in 2013, when the idea of a combination of private donors and public funds were discussed to replace Jennie Jaynes Stadium. The Groundbreaking ceremony occurred on November 6, 2013 and the ribbon-cutting and community celebration will take place on Thursday, March 6 at 5:30 p.m.
